Marge Irvine, Bangor and Camden

Margery Irvine was born in Brooklyn, NY, but Maine has been her home since 1969. She did her undergraduate work at Bates College and her graduate work at the University of Kansas, after which she moved to a farm in Waldo County where she and her first husband raised their five children. She is a Lecturer in English at the University of Maine, specializing in Maine literature and creative non-fiction.

Her essays and reviews have appeared in many magazines and newspapers; she and Kathleen Lignell Ellis edited The Eloquent Edge, a collection of writing by women living in Maine.

Irvine has been a scholar/facilitator for the Maine Humanities Council for many years, involved in several of their programs: Let’s Talk About It, Civic Discourse, Community Seminars, and Literature & Medicine.

She lives in Blue Hill with her husband, William Irvine, an artist, and is President of the Blue Hill Public Library Board of Directors.
