This monthly list of children’s books will highlight titles that lie beyond
the usual scope of online booklists. We’ve chosen unusual themes that might
have particular relevance to current events, life in Maine, or early
childhood. We are not attempting to make the lists comprehensive (allowing
them to be easily taken to the library), but we do aim for variety, hoping
to include both older and newer titles, both fiction and nonfiction, etc.
Titles are selected with quality, age appropriateness, awareness of racial
and gender differences, and availability in mind. A panel consisting of a
children’s librarian, a parent, and a child care provider will review each
list and provide suggestions. We invite your feedback and ideas for new
themes, too.
