Outside the Wire Comes to Maine

Theater of War actors

Outside the Wire works with a large cast of actors. Here, co-founder Bryan Doerries is on stage with actors Elizabeth Marvel and Bill Camp during a performance of “Theater of War” at Julliard. The cast for the Maine performances has not yet been determined.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see performances by Outside the Wire, an innovative, nationally acclaimed reader’s theater troupe, this October.

This New York City-based theater troupe presents readings of powerful literary works that are deeply engaging and spark community dialogue about pressing public issues. In Maine, they will present readings of ancient Greek plays in two different performances, “End of Life” and “Theater of War.” In each performance,

• a cast of accomplished actors brings characters struggling with complex ethical and moral issues to life.
• community members, from a variety of perspectives, respond directly to the issues raised by the performances through a facilitated town hall discussion.

Audiences have found these performances to be arresting and emotionally charged. After seeing a performance at L&M’s recent conference, a participant wrote:

“Theater of War shook me to my core.”

MHC has worked with Outside the Wire before...

Those who attended Literature & Medicine’s “After Shock” conference last fall will not soon forget the power of Outside the Wire’s “Theater of War” performance; in fact, months later we continue to hear how much it meant to those who experienced it. Now all of Maine can share this rare opportunity.
